Six months with one employer, and half the points on the grid.

Ongoing Manitoba employment with a long-term offer from that employer is worth 500 of the 1,000 available points, which is more than language, education and age combined. That makes this the strongest Manitoba route for anyone who qualifies, and the first place a former Career Employment Pathway candidate should look.

Why this is usually the route to want

Half of Manitoba's 1,000 points sit in one factor, and one answer inside that factor is worth the whole 500. Six months of ongoing Manitoba employment with a long-term offer from that employer is that answer. No other combination of circumstances reaches it.

The practical effect is that a candidate on this pathway is competing on a different basis from everyone else. Someone with 500 from employment needs comparatively little from language, education and age to reach a competitive total, while a candidate without it has to be exceptional across every other factor to get near.

  • Five hundred points for ongoing employment. Awarded for six months or more of employment in Manitoba with a long-term job offer from the same employer. It is the largest single award on the grid and it is capped there, so nothing stacks on top of it.
  • The waiting period depends on where you studied. Six months if you graduated in Manitoba or outside Canada. One year if you graduated from a post-secondary programme in another Canadian province or territory. Manitoba weighs interprovincial ties negatively throughout its grid, and this is where that shows up as a hard rule rather than a deduction.
  • Self-employment is excluded outright. Owner-operators and independent contractors cannot use this pathway. It requires a genuine employment relationship with a separate employer.
  • It is where former Career Employment Pathway candidates should look first. That pathway closed on 11 June 2026. This one reaches most of the same people on stronger terms, provided the six months of continuous full-time work with the supporting employer is there.

What the pathway requires

Skilled Worker in Manitoba requirements at 18 August 2026
RequirementWhat Manitoba asks for
Current workWorking in Manitoba on a valid work permit. Self-employed people, owner-operators and independent contractors are excluded.
Time with the employerSix months or more of continuous full-time employment with the company offering long-term work, if you graduated in Manitoba or outside Canada. One year or more if you graduated from a post-secondary programme in another Canadian province or territory.
Job offerFull-time and long-term, from that same Manitoba employer. The employer must be incorporated or registered under Canadian or provincial legislation and be an established business with a local place of business in Manitoba.
What counts as qualifying workAuthorised full-time employment with the supporting employer. Self-employment, unauthorised work, work on a co-op work permit and work performed while a full-time student do not count.
QualificationsAll qualifications the position requires, including any licence or certification. Where the occupation is regulated, licensing must be complete rather than in progress.
LanguageSufficient official language ability to perform the duties in the job description and establish economically in Manitoba. No fixed minimum is published for this pathway. Language is worth up to 125 points on the grid, so a tested result matters regardless.
Settlement planRequired. You must show an intention and a plan to live, work and establish in Manitoba as a permanent resident. There is no separate settlement funds threshold on this pathway.
Fee$500, non-refundable, paid when you submit the full application after an invitation.

Manitoba's payment process is unusually particular and it catches people out. The fee must be paid with a Visa or Mastercard credit card. A Visa Debit card will take the funds without submitting the application, and the money is returned within about ten business days. The province also specifies using the Microsoft Edge browser to pay.

The exclusion list is where this pathway is most often lost, not the six months. Refugee claimants, live-in caregivers in Canada, temporary foreign workers living outside Manitoba, spouses of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, anyone refused by the programme in the last six months, and anyone with an active application to another provincial or federal programme are all outside it. A federal Express Entry profile is not an application for this purpose.

A structured way to see where you stand against the published criteria. It returns an indication only, not an eligibility decision, not legal advice, and not a prediction that you will be invited.

Your situation

Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

What this does not test. It checks the published eligibility criteria of one pathway. It does not score you, and it does not tell you whether a draw will reach you, which in 2026 is the question that decides outcomes. It cannot judge whether a particular period of employment was continuous and full-time in the province's sense, or whether a gap between permits interrupted it, which is where these applications most often turn. Manitoba publishes no fixed language minimum for this pathway, so language is not tested here at all. An indication only, not an eligibility decision and not legal advice.

How selection works once you are eligible

Eligibility puts you in the pool. In 2026 the pool has not been drawn generally, so the question that matters next is which targeted category you fall into.

  • Manitoba graduates have been drawn heavily. One thousand eight hundred and seventy-four invitations in draw 275 on 16 July 2026, at a cut-off of 825. If you completed post-secondary study in Manitoba, this is the category most likely to reach you and it is drawing at volume.
  • Occupational categories are drawn selectively. Draw 276 on 30 July 2026 took 605 candidates from the manufacturing and utilities category at a cut-off of 632, and 74 across a short list of named occupations including aerospace, aircraft trades, physicians and facility management.
  • Francophone candidates are drawn in every round. Eighty-four in draw 275 and seventeen in draw 276. The numbers are small and the consistency is the point. French is a materially useful asset in Manitoba.
  • Employer Services is a route in itself. It is a strategic recruitment initiative through which a Manitoba employer can have candidates invited directly, and it issued 32 invitations in draw 275 and 20 in draw 276. If your employer is engaged with the province, ask whether they use it.

The full breakdown of both draws, and what the cut-offs mean.

Keep a federal Express Entry profile current alongside this. It is not an application, so it does not affect your eligibility here, and a Manitoba nomination through an enhanced stream adds 600 points to a federal ranking, which in practice guarantees a federal invitation. In draw 275, 825 of the invited candidates held a valid federal profile number. How the federal pool works.

What we look at before you commit to this route

Whether this is the right route for your record or simply the one you found first, whether another stream would take the same file on easier terms, and what the application will actually be judged on.

01 / Start here

Strategy consultation

A paid session that tests your record against this route and the alternatives, checks how your work is classified, and tells you plainly where you actually stand.

02 / Review

Lawyer review, you file

You prepare and submit; we review the classification, the evidence and the documentation before it goes in, and flag what would be questioned.

03 / Representation

Full representation

We build, document and file the matter as your lawyer of record, and carry it through to the federal permanent residence stage.

Every matter begins with the strategy consultation. If you instruct us within six months of that consultation for a lawyer review or for full representation, the consultation fee is credited against that work. One credit per person.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this pathway for?

Foreign nationals already working in Manitoba on a valid work permit, whose employer will offer them full-time long-term employment. It is the strongest Manitoba route for most people who qualify, because ongoing Manitoba employment with a long-term offer from that employer is worth 500 of the 1,000 available points.

How long do I have to have worked for the employer?

Six months or more of continuous full-time employment with the company that is offering you long-term work, if you graduated from a Manitoba institution or from any institution outside Canada. One year or more if you graduated from a post-secondary programme in another Canadian province or territory. That distinction is easy to miss and it doubles the waiting period for a large group of people.

I closed the Career Employment Pathway page and landed here. Is this a downgrade?

For most people, no. The Career Employment Pathway closed on 11 June 2026. If you have six months of continuous full-time work with an employer willing to offer you long-term employment, this pathway reaches you and carries 500 adaptability points, which is half the grid. Former Career Employment Pathway candidates who satisfy the six months are usually in a stronger position here than they were there.

I am self-employed, or I own the company. Can I use this?

No. Self-employed people, owner-operators and independent contractors are expressly excluded from this pathway. The requirement is a genuine employment relationship with a separate employer. If your plan is to run a business in Manitoba, the Business Investor Stream is the route, and it works quite differently.

Which work counts towards the six months?

Authorised full-time employment with the supporting employer. Self-employment does not count. Unauthorised work does not count. Work on a co-op work permit does not count. Work performed while you were a full-time student does not count. Those four exclusions remove a great deal of what people assume qualifies, so the six months should be checked against them rather than assumed.

What language level do I need?

Manitoba does not publish a fixed minimum for this pathway. Its requirement is official language ability sufficient to perform the duties in the job description and to establish economically in Manitoba, which an officer assesses. Language is also worth up to 125 points on the grid, so a tested result matters for selection even where no floor is published. For skilled occupations, practitioners generally treat CLB 7 as the working expectation.

Can I apply if I have an application with another province or with a federal programme?

An active application to another provincial or federal immigration programme makes you ineligible. A federal Express Entry profile is not an application for this purpose, so keeping a profile in the federal pool does not disqualify you, and is worth doing because a nomination adds 600 points to a federal ranking.

Who else is excluded?

Refugee claimants; live-in caregivers in Canada; temporary foreign workers residing outside Manitoba; spouses of Canadian citizens or permanent residents; anyone refused by the programme in the previous six months; and anyone with an active application to another provincial or federal programme. Several of these are status bars rather than scoring problems, so a stronger application does not overcome them.
